Free Primary Nativity Kit from Mary’s Meals

Mary’s Meals is a ‘no-frills’ charity that provides life-changing meals to some of the world’s poorest children every school day. They provide one good meal in a place of learning, so children are drawn into the classroom where they can receive an education that could one day free them from poverty.  Mary’s Meals is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her own child in poverty. They consist of, respect and reach out to people of all faiths and of none.  Their website has a number of free and fun-filled activity packs where students can learn about the lives of children in the other countries and see the amazing difference a meal makes to young people living in poverty.  They have also published a brilliant Nativity kit for primary schools by authors Frank and Denise Cottrell-Boyce. Frank, who wrote best-selling book Millions, and his wife Denise have created two rhyming scripts for primary school children to perform complete with instructions and handy hints on filming, costumes and editing.  You can download the kit and other resources on their website here: https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/get-involved/resources-for-children/

‘I will be a Hummingbird’

The climate negotiations at COP26 may well have drawn to a close but we all need to continue efforts to look after our planet.  ‘I will be a Hummingbird’ is one of the most pertinent tales for our current environmental situation, especially if you or your pupils are feeling overwhelmed or anxious about it.  Listen to Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai speak about this story: I will be a hummingbird – Wangari Maathai (2 mins You Tube video – click here).  “I am doing the best I can’, and that to me is what all of us should do.”
